Adobe has removed a number of features that previously shipped with earlier versions of Photoshop. The reason given for a number of these is that their functionality has effectively been superceded by new or improved features. While this is true in some areas one of the most common activities in Photoshop, namely selecting objects from backgrounds and vice versa, is something that can still use all the assistance that is available.
The Extract Filter was one of the casualties of the weeding exercise but we feel it still adds something to the difficult area of selections. So – here is a tip that allows you to reintroduce the filter to your armoury of options. We will be doing tutorial on the use of the Filter in due course for those of you who are unfamiliar with it but today we are just going to show you how to get it back.
You have basically two options: -
1. There is a ‘goodies’ folder on your installation DVD. Simply open it and selct the options you want to install.
2. If you no longer have access to the DVD you can get the Extract plugin (ExtractPlus) and others from this webpage – http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404900.html#h6 Both Windows and Mac versions are available. Follow the instructions to install the plugin.
