Canon have announced their latest professional DSLR – the latest in the I series – the Mark IV. Due to be released in December with a price tag of $4999 (subject to change). While retaining the APS-H sensor (x1.3) this camera sports a number of significant improvements over the Mark III including: -
16.1 megapixel CMOS sensor
ISO up to 12,800 – extendable to 102,400
Full 1080p HD video at 24p, 25p and 30p rates
Vignette correction
Wireless file transmitter
45 point autofocus system
DIGIC 4 processors
With all of the above and its exhaustive weatherproofing and high burst speed this latest camera looks set to take the EOS 1D line to a new level of photographic goodness. We look forward to seeing how it performs in the wild – especially at the very high ISO levels vis a vis Nikon’s latest offering. Hopefully the exchange rate will be set at a level that gives UK customers a reasonable deal.
UPDATE – 21/10/2009
It looks as though UK customers are going to be asked to pay for the camera at an exchange rate very close to £1 = $1. (Warehouse Express pre-order price £4499 incl. VAT, body only (includes some ‘free’ gifts). This represents a significant mark up to the current exchange rate.
